Toward the end of the program,
Florence Terrell gave an acceptance speech
upon being installed as the 2009 Chairman of
the Board. Below is an excerpt from her
speech detailing many of the goals and ambitions
for 2009:
I want to thank all of you for the honor
of serving as your Chairman in 2009. It is a
privilege that I don’t take lightly.
I extend my congratulations to all the
award recipients and my heartfelt thanks to
all of our sponsors. I would also like to thank
the Executive Committee and Directors,
Chairs, Vice Chairs and Task Force leaders.
It takes all of us to manage the affairs of
SABOR. None of what we do could be
accomplished without the leadership of
Travis Kessler and the fantastic staff he manages.
I must also commend Bob Leonard on
his leadership of our Board in 2008. Mr.
Cool was never ruffled and he always served
with the members in mind. We have accomplished
much under his administration.
Our 2009 National President of the

theme is “United Toward Tomorrow”. The
objectives for 2009 are based around this
theme. UNITED - We are going to build
relationships at all levels of our Association
that will help us in the years ahead. We are
going to work together and empower our various
committees & members to achieve their
goals and objectives.
TOWARD – We are taking a proactive
role as a Board to shape a successful
real estate market. We are going to use the
power we have as a large trade organization
to influence the political outcomes of our city.
We are striving to build the trust with consumers
and emphasize the fact that the
REALTOR® is their most trusted source of
accurate information whether buying, selling,
leasing, managing or appraising. We will
take every opportunity to inform the community
that real estate is local and San Antonio
has a thriving real estate market. Our thanks
to the Express News , local trade papers,
Newsline and ShowCase USA that join us in
promoting the positive market we have here.
TOMORROW – Whatever we do
today, we are planting the seed for the future
of our industry. We will build the respect of
the community for our members while continuing
to educate our members on how to
meet the challenges in our changing economic
times. We will continue to encourage
members to pursue leadership positions and
take part in the Texas REALTOR®
Leadership Program. We have more generations
of people who are members of our
Board. We have to applaud and appreciate
the seed that the Civics and Baby Boomers
have contributed to our industry and encourage
the Generation X & Y’ers to come along
and water so that the field of our industry can
prosper. We are in a new age and we must be
able to grasp what it takes to continue to be
viable as an Association, business owners and
as REALTORS®.
Our goals for 2009 include the
Housing Forecast on January 6th, where I
believe you will hear that “we will be fine in
2009”. We are going to complete the project
Mr. Leonard started on our Public Website as
well as re-vamp our www.sabor.com website.
We are committed to education and we have
designated funds in the budget to keep our
real estate school on the cutting edge. Our
Education Committee will be working on our
Town Hall meetings and the September
REALTOR® Rally. The REALTOR®
Builder Committee will again host the annual
bus tour as well as New Home
Construction Classes to enhance our knowledge
about new construction and strengthen
the REALTOR®/Builder relationship.
This is a legislative year and we are
going to be involved in the political arena to
ensure that private property rights are protected.
Please join us for the Hill Visits that will
happen in March.
I also ask for your support of
TREPAC. The goal that has been established
for our Board is $287,000. This is a $40,000
increase from last year. We need each member
to participate with their fair share and
attend the fundraisers our TREPAC committee
is organizing.
Through all of your involvement
and commitment, we will all be sure to have
a successful 2009.
