SWBC Mortgage Corporation has
been setting standards for quality service
in the San Antonio area for the past 20
years. As part of the insurance and financial
services conglomerate SWBC, the
SWBC Mortgage Corporation has become
one of San Antonio’s largest residential
housing lenders.
SWBC was founded 32 years ago
when childhood friends Charlie Amato,
Chairman, and Gary Dudley, President,
decided to form a company that provided
top quality insurance products to credit
unions and other financial institutions.
From those humble roots, SWBC
has become one of San Antonio’s fastest
growing and largest privately held companies,
boasting 19 separate divisions providing
a range of insurance, mortgage, and
investment services to financial institutions,
businesses, and individuals.
SWBC’s Mortgage Corporation is a
vital part of the SWBC family, providing
innovative mortgage solutions and personalized
financing packages for borrowers in
many states throughout the nation.
Under the talented leadership of
Susan and Van Stewart, SWBC Mortgage
Corporation has earned the coveted position
as one of the top lenders in San
Antonio. Their insistence on sound business
and lending practices has allowed
SWBC to remain strong and stable amid
current economic volatility and confusion.
Even in these troubling times, SWBC has
money to lend to qualified buyers helping
them to achieve the dream of owning their
own home.
Susan Stewart, President and CEO
of SWBC Mortgage Corporation, began
her career with the company in 1989 as
Senior Vice President, becoming President
of the Mortgage Corporation shortly thereafter
in 1991. An experienced mortgage
banker, Susan specializes in the development
of innovative outsourcing solutions
for financial institutions and retail mortgage
banking. She is a past President of
the San Antonio Mortgage Bankers
Association and recently received the
2008 Texas Mortgage Banker’s
Association’s Distinguished Service
Award.

Mortgage Corporation. Possessing a
wealth of production and secondary marketing
experience, he joined SWBC in
1999, when the company he founded, First
Texas Mortgage, was purchased by
SWBC. The merger of these two operations
positioned SWBC Mortgage as the
largest locally-owned mortgage origination
company in San Antonio. Van currently
serves as the President of the Texas
Mortgage Bankers Association.
Led by this outstanding executive
team, SWBC has set standards for mortgage
service excellence with the creation
of a team of highly dependable and experienced
loan officers, processors, and
closers. Their outstanding ability to maintain
great relations with local builders, real
estate agents, and borrowers has contributed
greatly to SWBC’s leadership
position in the San Antonio mortgage
community. The SWBC team works closely
with all parties involved in the mortgage,
providing updates and setting expectations
throughout to ensure satisfied
agents and borrowers.
The foundation of SWBC
Mortgage’s success is their key philosophy
that every borrower is unique. Their
loan officers take the time to thoroughly
analyze a borrower’s situation to identify
financing that helps them better achieve
their goals—whether short term or long
term. With a complete array of loan products
that include both conforming and
non-conforming fixed-rate and ARM programs,
as well as interim construction
financing, FHA, and VA loans, SWBC can
offer most every borrower a financing
package suited to their personal preference.
Further, in-house processing,
underwriting, and funding have allowed
SWBC to create a highly flexible and
responsive mortgage program. Their goal
is smooth, seamless transactions that foster
a relationship among borrowers and
their real estate partners so that they’ll
contact SWBC every time they have a
need for mortgage financing. In fact,
SWBC surveys each borrower after closing
to determine satisfaction levels and
identify any potential areas for improvement.
SWBC is also a good corporate citizen,
and they strongly believe in sharing
their success. Because the strength and
stability of the San Antonio community is
very important to them, SWBC works
hard to ensure that they are giving back to
the city that has helped them grow.
Contributions are constantly made to a
large number of programs in the area that
support the education and health of area
residents. In fact, SWBC Mortgage
donates a portion of the proceeds from
each loan funded in Bexar County to the
Fisher House at BAMC to support injured
military members and their families.
In the past 20 years, SWBC
Mortgage Corporation has grown by leaps
and bounds and shows no signs of slowing
down. Through a combination of experienced
management, dedicated loan teams,
products, and personal service, SWBC has
become a trusted partner and provider in
the San Antonio mortgage community.
