It’s April and in San Antonio that
means a few major things for our city.
First, it’s FIESTA. Fiesta in San Antonio is
of course our city’s largest party of the
year, but ultimately it represents tradition
and fundraising. Tradition and fundraising
are two things that are a core part of WCR.
Secondly, it means “Go SPURS
Go!” Of course this year the basketball
fever is taken to new heights as the Final
Four has imploded downtown San
Antonio. The excitement grows as our
defending NBA Championship Spurs are
playing better than they have all year long
and seem to be ready to work as a team as
they go forward into playoff season. A
TEAM environment is also what Women’s
Council of REALTORS is about.
At our last membership orientation
breakfast Trudy Pape, a REALTOR member
gave a testimonial. She mentioned that
several REALTORS always ask her why
she wants to be involved with a group of
other REALTORS, why does she hang
around with her competition instead of
potential clients.
By Jackie Galvan
President, Women’s Council of REALTORS
Spring Fever At WCR!
Trudy shared the importance of networking
with other professionals that she
would in fact be doing business with, that
share the same opportunities, and challenges.
She continued to discuss the value
of camaraderie, the educational benefits,
and marketing value WCR brings to her
business. Trudy is just one of many members
that enjoy the sense of TEAM that
being a part of Women’s Council creates.
Whether you are working with another
member in a real estate transaction, in need
of a service provider from staging to appliance
repair, or simply making friends by
decorating at a fundraiser you will benefit
from being a part of this team. Much like
the San Antonio Spurs the San Antonio
WCR Chapter is an award winning team,
and we are taking new recruits if you are
looking for a team that can take your career
to a championship level.
Getting back to Fiesta, many of us
are a part of that team, as the whole city
joins together to celebrate tradition.
Several of us volunteer, perhaps work a
NIOSA booth, or simply contribute to the

economic boost Fiesta festivities add to
our local economy. We exchange showing
houses till the sunset for cracking a cascarone
over the head of a long lost buddy,
which we now add to our referral database.
Whatever Fiesta event you chose to attend
one thing there is in common is that proceeds
are benefiting an organization or
charity.
On that note, let’s talk about WCR’s
fundraising event. Last month I dropped a
few hints, but it’s official now, and it is
going to be a FIESTA you won’t want to
miss.
Mark your calendars for Thursday
July 17, 2008. Plan to go downtown
towards Alamo Plaza, get out your favorite
linen outfit, grab that fedora and join us for
Hot Havana Nights at the Grand
Promenade. Tickets are only $40 till June
30th, so get your tickets early. Last year’s
event was a sell out, and with mojitos, mini
cigars, Cuban food and salsa dancers, this
year’s event is a must attend. If you’re
looking for a networking event, or just to
have a blast I encourage you to attend.
So mark your calendars, plan your
vacations a different week, and get a baby
sitter if you need to. You do not have to be
a WCR member to attend this event, so
invite your friends or other professionals
you work with and watch our team in
motion. It’s a Women’s Council of REAL-
TORS tradition to raise funds to provide
education scholarships to our members
and further our organizations initiatives. If
you are a WCR member and would like to
help us with this event, or would like to
reserve your tickets now please email me
at jackiegalvan@remax.net, and I will forward
your information so we can assist
you. For more information about

Members of the Women’s Council of Realtors prepare to hold
their monthly member meeting at Sonterra Country Club.
