Smart Energy™ – The Best Energy
Resource
Smart Energy - the combination of
electricity and natural gas – produces the
highest level of energy efficiency in
today’s homes and saves up to 20 percent
on annual utility bills.
An energy-efficient home provides
more comfort and lower operating costs
than a standard home built to required
codes. The Smart Energy program offered
by CPS Energy ensures that the San
Antonio area member builders are providing
a combined energy package that is better
for the environment and the best use of
our natural resources.
Every home must have electricity,
and electricity runs just about every appliance.
However, electric water heaters, furnaces,
dryers and stoves all cost about 20
percent more to operate than the same gas
appliances. Why? Because natural gas is
more efficient for thermal (heat-generating)
purposes than electric energy. Natural
gas also heats faster, cooks more evenly
and is more reliable. So for the long term,
it is less expensive to use. Using natural
gas for any cooking and heating applications
will save significant money. And nat-

ural gas is the cleanest burning fossil fuel –
producing 30 percent less emissions into
the atmosphere.
Electricity is essential to our homes
and lifestyles; it is needed for lighting,
refrigeration, computers, televisions and
countless other appliances that are used
every day. For these applications, there is
no substitute – electricity is the best energy.
But remember, for thermal purposes,
natural gas is the best choice; so when buying
a new home - choose the combination
of electricity and natural gas, Smart
Energy.
Currently there are over 109 San
Antonio area builders committed to providing
homes with Smart Energy. For a
