In March I attended my high
school class reunion, hosted by Laura
Bush and George Bush. Laura graduated
from Midland Lee High School in
1964,and we were classmates.
We were not allowed to take
pictures of the President, only the official
photo set up. We were allowed on
Friday night full access to the downstairs
of the White House. We also
watched the President’s helicopter
land on the back lawn of the White
house - (they fly in 3 helicopters and
one peels off and lands on the lawn!)
Saturday night there was a dinner and
dance at the White House with a live
band that played "our" music - the 60's.
Laura came and danced but the
President had to go back to work!
asked one of the aides if they
had parties like this very often, he
laughed and said rarely and especially
not with dancing,the aides got a kick
out of seeing everyone dancing and
some of them even danced with some
of our crowd.
The Bushes were exceedingly
gracious; Laura Welch Bush is still the
same kind of quiet but very pleasant
and gracious person. My sister in law,
Sharon Hughes (in the picture with us)
went to junior high with George (they
called him GW) but he was sent to military
school when he entered high
school.
I was fascinated by the displays
of beautiful china and the wonderful
rooms - they are so well kept with
huge chandeliers and antique furnishings.

Though Laura graduated from
Lee, she extended the reunion invitation
to the other two Midland High
Schools, Midland High and Carver
High.
I even saw friends from my
Junior High that I had not seen since
then. We had a really great time. And
