goes: “May you live in interesting times”.
Certainly, 2008 has fulfilled that promise.
However, amid the turmoil of an election
year, a housing market tumble and an international
financial crisis, San Antonio
remains “the place to be”. Almost every
financial publication and poll continues to
have our great city ranked in the top 1, 2 or
3 for potential real estate growth. This certainly
bodes well for the future of our wonderful
city so we have, not just much to be
thankful for but much to look forward to.
For SABOR members, the beginning
of each year starts with a solid Business
Plan and a list of lofty goals, known as
“BHAGs”, or Big, Hairy, Audacious Goals.
Making plans is one thing; making plans
reality is quite another. The hard work of
turning intentions into results is the nittygritty
of business, so I’m proud to say that,
through the efforts of all the volunteers and
SABOR staff who so thoughtfully serve on
the committees and task forces at your
board, we have either achieved every goal
established for the year 2008 or are well on
the way.

Chairman, San Antonio Board of REALTORS®
Farwell from the 2008 Chairman of the Board
We now have a terrific new MLS system
in place. This state-of-the-art system
reinforces SABOR’s reputation as being a
leader among IT-savvy boards nationally.
We are well on the way to implement
a new public web site designed to drive consumers,
home buyers and sellers to you.
We have hired the services of a professional
PR firm to publicize and enhance
the image of the San Antonio REALTOR®.
We have expanded our efforts to
communicate with all 8000 members
through Monday Updates, the hiring of an
Information Central Coordinator, and
enhanced Town Hall Meetings.
We hosted the 2008 Texas
Association of REALTORS® state-wide
convention, giving 1500 members of our
industry the chance to witness, first-hand,
the beauty and strength of San Antonio and
our market.
We have focused on working directly
with our local city, county and state politicians
and representatives to increase their
awareness of just how important the real
estate industry is to a healthy economy. And,
to help ensure our collective voice is heard

when decisions affecting our industry are
made.
We have increased our marketing
efforts for the best real estate school in
Texas, the SABOR Real Estate School.
So, 2008, as “interesting” as it’s been,
has also been a great, and productive, year.
When you see someone who has generously
volunteered their time to serve on a SABOR
committee, task force, Board of Directors,
or TREPAC, don’t forget to say “thank
you”. I can promise these people work tirelessly
on your behalf and make your Board
work for you.
Have I mentioned the SABOR staff?
We are blessed with the best Board staff in
the state. These are the people who work
more hours than you realize to keep
SABOR running smoothly, keep your costs
low, and provide the services that make our
industry work and our lives easier. From a
personal standpoint, my heartfelt THANKS
go to Travis Kessler and everyone there for
making me look better than I possibly could
have during 2008.
We have a great year to look forward
to in 2009. Ms. Florence Terrell will be
your new Chairman of the Board, Marietta
Alba the 2009 Chairman-Elect, and Scott
Caballero the 2009 Secretary-Treasurer.
This is a terrific line up of volunteer professionals
whose job it is to look out after your
best interests, and to handle whatever these
“interesting times” throw our way with
determination, wisdom and grace. I know
we will be in good hands and can all look
forward to remarkable things to come!
