Well, by now you may have moved
past this very active election season, but I
hope you felt the excitement generated by
the presidential race and all the down ballot
races. Although SABOR does not take
a position in the presidential election, your
vote made a difference now, this year, this
moment ~ more than any other recent election.
All SABOR endorsed candidates
won their elections. These are REAL-
TOR® and private property owners’ victories.
Thanks to those of you who worked
the polls on behalf of these fine candidates.
They are now assured to return to
Austin and Washington DC to represent
us. Also, County Commissioner-Elect
Kevin Wolff and County Commissioner
Chico Rodriguez will be representing us
locally. We look forward to their continued
leadership. Thank you for voting the
REALTOR® Party!
As a bit of trivia, 400,638 individuals
cast an early vote out of the total number
of registered voters (930,943) for an

WCR Gives Thanks
November is here and as we
approach Thanksgiving I'd like to take this
time for reflection. This year has been a
roller coaster ride in many ways. However
we have many things to be thankful for.
Of course one of the many things
we can be thankful for is that we live in
San Antonio, TX. Forbes magazine featured
San Antonio as one of a few recession
proof cities.
This month our guest speaker,
Martin Wender, shared with us even more
positives about development and job
growth in our city. He also stated much
like we continue to hear at the annual
housing forecasts: job growth = housing
starts/home sales. It was a pleasure for our
members to hear Marty's positive outlook
for our hometown.
November 15, 2008 REAL ESTATE NEWSLINE 3
As I write this article I am in
between meetings at the National
Association of REALTORS convention.
Despite all of the talking heads and the
distractions of our historical election I am
proud to let you know that this convention
has 30,000 in attendance. Here in Orlando
we are also experiencing history in the
making. On November 6, 2008 Charles
Mc Millan of Dallas, Texas was installed
as our first African American president of
NAR. It is a great honor to not only have
a Texan as our leader but to be creating
history as well. Orlando was taken over
by Texans celebrating not only the inaugural
of Charles but we are also proud to
install Houston, Texas' Becky Hill as the
2009 National President for Women’s
Council of REALTORS.
A Texan has held neither of these
positions in decades and it was a star-studded
evening honoring these individuals.
The NAR Conference and Expo
provided numerous educational opportunities
and an expo with about 5000 booths
of tools for professionals in our industry.
As your local chapter president it is
a privilege to travel and bring back education
and experience to enhance our local
chapter. This year we are looking to find
the best programs and products to bring
back for our 2009 programs. So if you’re
not a WCR member the time to check us
out is now.
For more information about our
organization please visit our website at
www.wcrsanantonio.com, or email me at
jackiegalvan@remax.net. If you have any
suggestions for programs for 2009 email
me or agimblet@independencetitle.com,
we'd love your input. Lastly please join us
on December 3, 2008 as we install our
2009 officers and acknowledge our
accomplishments of 2008.
